It’s no longer business as usual for the world and certainly not for the Body of Christ. The days of sitting by the sidelines are coming to an end. Our focus on the blog this year will be on some of the battles we will have to contend with this decade as Christians.
The strength of who we are as Christians is in what we know and remember to be true about our God. All around us all manner of chaos is raging in the world. If ever there was a time we need to remember who God is, it’s now.
It’s a battle that we can easily dismiss because it seems so simple yet it carries tremendous weight.
A battle of remembrance. One that takes place across time – from past, to present and right into the future.
We only doubt God when we forget about what He’s already done.

What has God done in the past?
This is the first place of our remembrance.
What God has done in the past reveals His nature to you. You can go as far back as Bible days or as recent as yesterday. The actions He’s taken in your life and that of others is a letter to your soul that says: this is who I Am.
Consider where you began your career. Would you be where you are without the hand of God at work In your life? Could it be that the very work you now do was once a whispered prayer you made to God?
How has He revealed Himself to you in the course of your career? The things you thought would break you yet here you stand. Was it not Him who raised you out of pits of despair and set your feet upon a rock? Was it not Him who led you into places that only divine favour could give you access to? Was it not Him who increased you time and time again?
Could it be that the challenges you’re currently facing are a prophetic wind pointing you to a time when God showed Himself strong. Because somewhere along the way, you forgot the testimony of days past?
What has God done in your past?

Who is God to you in the present?
This is the second place of our remembrance.
The power of testimony lies in the never-changing nature of God. This allows our testimony of the past to serve as an anchor for our present.
Yet, just because we’ve seen God in the past doesn’t mean we can see Him in the present. It’s easy for circumstances to cloud our vision and pull our gaze from the Son to the storm.
Peter got out of the boat on the basis of who He knew Jesus to be. But he started to sink when the waves around him became bigger in his sight than the Son of God in front of Him.
Did you start off your job or business in faith that has since been shattered by the waves you didn’t see coming?
Did you start off trusting God for your provision but now wander about restlessly wondering where your next meal will come from? Are you not more important to Him than the sparrows He so lovingly tends to?
What has become greater in your sight than the God who made the heavens and the earth? Give God His rightful place on the throne of your heart.
Who is God to you in the present?
Don’t forget to remember.

What has God promised for the future?
This is the third place of our remembrance.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11
Many of us have this verse memorised but we’ve forgotten the context in which God spoke it. The Israelites were in exile and had plenty of reason to be worried about their future.
It wasn’t just a feel-good statement God was making. It was a declared promise that He had not forgotten them and His purpose for their lives still stood.
God hasn’t forgotten you either. He hasn’t lost sight of the plans He’s had for you since before you were born. His plans for your are not held captive by the challenges of your present.
What has God promised you for the future?
Don’t forget to remember.
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
John 14:26 ESV
What have you forgotten about God?
Go back to the places of your doubt.
Remember what God has done in the past.
Remember who He’s been to you in the present.
Remember His promises to you for the future.
He’s not done with you yet.
I am convinced and confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will [continue to] perfect and complete it until the day of Christ Jesus [the time of His return].
